About Lorella Mastropasqua, from Absolute Art Gallery
Lorella Mastropasqua was born in 1971 and grew up during the 1980s and was influenced by the artistic culture of the time. The 1980s were an era of growing global capitalism, political upheaval, global mass media, wealth discrepancies and unique music and fashion, characterised by hip hop and electronic pop music. This had a strong impact on the generation of artists growing up during this era. The fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of the 1980s marked the end of the Cold War, yet the era was also distinguished by the African Famine. During this time influential art movements included Neo Geo, The Pictures Generation and Neo-Expressionism, which took a strong hold in Germany, France and Italy. Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Jörg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were primary artists working during this period, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who developed the street art and graffiti movements, which quickly gained recognition.
Lorella is very motivated and enthusiastic to paint and have found a new stream of creativity and styles in her new paintings. Her art is full of meaning with a turbulence of colours and many contrasts as the world surrounding her. She is full of energy and contradictions, and she is constantly aware of strong issue that appears the day-to-day way of life.
She is passionate on the process of artistic journey on canvas, showing her identity in her art, through the brush of a colour with the people in her painting.
