Time of event : 25, April 2009- 24, May 2009
Instruments of art have great significance in the aspiration of understanding possibilities of the interpretation of reality in the XXI th century.
Besides, it secures a role being equal to his mediaeval rank and his authority again in the viewing accomplished, beyond a concept the exploration of knowledge in the pictorial genre of the icon as well.
It is perceptible in those creator manifestations- that are consciously built upon the traditions of the Orthodox religious culture – which give life to the ability of the pictorial expression to join together and to separate intellectual and material reality.
Emerged from the liturgical space, but without following the expectations of the nature of the installation XXI. century icon – similarly to its genre antecedents – makes an effort to reveal the eternal phenomenons of reality, however it can no longer lean on his truth, provided by its natural strength.
The so-called Balcanian region, the traditions and the actualities of Eastern-Christian culture represent significant values in the contemporary spiritual life of Szentendre.
Regarding all these – for taking responsibility for the keeping of the city's cultural heritages – the Léna & Roselli Gallery found it important and had taken the possible future public interest into consideration that the above mentioned topic should be exposed in the exhibition hall of the Old Artist Estate at Szentendre.
The aim of the exhibition is to analyze the actuality of the XXI. th century world view represented in the icon genre:
- The relation between material and transcendental reality,
- The illusion of realizing endless spatial and temporal time in the frames of geographical sphere and historical time.
- The actuality of artist activity and the ability of reality interpretation.
- The determination of the artwork’s material and principal mental unity.
The above mentioned phenomenons will be followed throughout the works of the following artists:
József Bartl, Róza El-Hassan – Salam Haddad, Gábor Király, Lola Kovács, Gyula Pauer, Eszter Szabó, Tamás Szikora, Levente Szűcs and Ferenc Veszely Hungarian artists works next to László Tibay of Hungarian birth sculptor living in France,
Nikolaj IVANOV and Ivan VELCSEV Bulgarian painter, Zdravko ZDRAVKOV Bulgarian sculptor, addicionally Milan Blanusa, Vladimir Dunjic, Gyurity Milán, Dorde Kovacev, Vojislav Luković, Veljko Mihajlović Serbian artists.
The exhibition’s topic is justified by the Léna & Roselli Gallery’s intention to nurture the values of Hungarian works of art with the values of other international, mostly those of Eastern-European, in one community.
These aspects were determinant for us to analyze the genre of icon and its role in contemporary art philosophy.
With the cooperation of the Bulgarian cultural Institute at Budapest, the Serbian Cultural and Documentary Centre of Hungary
the Old Artist Estate Gallery at Szentendre which joined the utilization of its communal building.
