My works are based upon my own photos, which I take on the street or other places. I walk on the street as if I would watch a film, I spectate every moment, and situation around me. Based upon these, I create a world of my own. By applying a miscellaneous technique, with using oil, graphite, and coal ,I piece my photos together on canvas. I usually create my topics on my trips abroad. My videos are based on the same mentality , but they are black-and-white and the situations become more dramatic during the cutting procedure.
“For me, the child-mother relation is important for me as it is the counter pole of the various threats in life. While someone is walking on the street or waiting in the crowd he\she is always defenseless against the feeling of being lost. The symbiosis between mother and her child means the shelter against being threatened and the entirety of childhood innocence.”
Kim Corbusier paints genres, she keeps an eye on familiar and unknown people around her. She makes films, takes photos of them, then she cuts the montages together, to reconstruct the events of the objective and realistic world in her own aspect. The attention of the young artist generation in the last ten years definitely turned to figurative imagery, thus it is not easy to create new image constructions. The abundance of photograph-based artistic representations and the visual fullness of our environment creates a consistent agent, which should be dealt with specific strategic methods. Kim’s strategy is persistent moving, an aesthetical roam in an urban environment. Her recent exhibition deals with a single topic, it focuses on the intimate moments of mother-child, and grandson-grandmother relations. Kim always emotionally approaches towards the characters of her pictures, though, pedestrians, who are normally strangers and will remain strangers, are never being represented as neutral and faceless crowds. Her delineation is indeed effective in the sense that she can transform photographs which were taken by an emotionless technical device, into new and fascinating pictures by using her brush. Kim is a kind of urban storyteller, who although cannot remember all details, but still able to create gripping stories. Her dropping technique, which particularly makes her pictures ethereal, is now acquiring a reasonable meaning, it becomes the metaphor of infant fantasize about the lost of the mothers.
